Many considered the premise far too derivative and felt it had little to offer to the superhero or sci fi genres. Alphas was unfairly thrown into that group by many as well and it failed to attract a large enough audience.

Syfy did renew it for a second season, but as mentioned above it went through some retooling at that point. The ratings slipped further and the network decided to cancel the show, leaving it on a huge cliffhanger and with many of its storylines unresolved.

The chances of this one coming back for another full season are almost nil. But I would love to see at least a two-hour movie to act as a better finale for the series.

Zak Penn put out the following tweets giving a brief rundown of what would happen, but a full movie would be a much nicer conclusion. Rosen lived. Hicks and Nina ended up together. Rachel went back to civilian life.

Bills kid was an alpha. Gary ends up the leader of a reconstituted, less violent Red Flag. Parish dies of a viral infection that targets his peculiar chemistry. After that doesn't work, Amy attempts to teach Sheldon how to let go, which doesn't work either. Finally, Sheldon takes the next step that many devout TV fans have probably attempted. He tracks down the writer of the show by calling everyone with the writer's name in the phone book.
