Henry needed surgery, so Teddy sent Cristina in to take care of it, without letting her know that it was Henry on the table so she wouldn't freak out about operating on her mentor's husband. She didn't want to leave because Owen was a mess over his divorce from Cristina, so he fired her, allowing her to pursue her dream job.
But now, Teddy's back, and it will definitely be interesting to see how she's changed over the last several seasons she's been gone. Maybe if things don't work out with Amelia, she and Owen will finally have their chance? Or that yours is okay, and hers is not? The most important thing is can we forgive, and how do we move forward into a healthier space? VV: Teddy clearly still has some issues surrounding vulnerability and commitment, though.
KR: I think intimacy for her is excruciatingly painful because it brings up her loss and the gravitas of losing both parents, losing the love of her life, losing Henry, played by the amazing Scott Foley.
Her only way to survive and stay on two feet was by moving forward and caregiving others. You are not feeling seen. How do you move forward and out of it? The root of this episode, which I hope people take away from it, is that we need to get our s--t together and lead a better life.

A few years later, she and Owen got together when he flew to Germany to tell her he loves her. They spent a blissful night and day together before she sent him packing back to Seattle. In Season 17, she returned to Seattle very pregnant and becomes involved with Dr. Tom Koracick Greg Germann. But she realizes she is in love with Owen. After giving birth to their daughter, she admits to Owen she still has feelings for him. He admits the same to her.

The writing in recent years in general and for Teddy, in particular, doesn't inspire confidence. It would have been better, for the characters and the audience alike, if she hadn't come back to Grey Sloan.
